The components of this urban landscape form an uninviting city conveying unfamiliarity and loneliness. It is a daunting, undecipherable, and charged city that exudes warfare and the remnants of battle. A city where everything is prepared and ready for an unknown event
The city is abandoned, and only the traces of man's creations disclose that there were once people here. The silence is menacing.
What is the catastrophe that has brought about their disappearance? The work does not supply a narrative answer. The vast discrepancy between the abundance of structures and the emptiness of the landscape surrounding transmits a nervous restlessness.
The play of shapes between the mass and its negative spaces is fascinating. The anatomy that constructs the composition conveys a sense of dynamism and enhances the intensity of the anticipation for something that is about to happen. The urban buildings are located in an unclear, yet vaguely familiar place.
The work was created from black metal cutouts, punctured by gaps of various shapes, sizes and rhythms. The light that emanates behind the opaque black inspires a cinematic magic of virtual tangibility on the viewer. There is a gap between the earthy and substantial, which draws towards the basis of the work, and the vertical shapes protruding upwards, piercing the space enveloping them and resisting the horizontal movement.
It is a meditative work of silence and
concentration.
The unique outlook on the structures outer shell – a wall, a dome, a turret, is evocative of holy places that gather into an iconography of an ancient city with historical depth.

2011 מתוך קטלוג התערוכה " מקומות מסומנים"
מנופים. כף של שופל. מגדלי שמירה. גשר ברזל. גלגלי שיניים. תותחים. אוניית ענק המונחת על גשר במלוא כובד משקלה.קשתות אדריכליות. אנטנות. פנסים. עמודי חשמל. אלו הם מרכיבי הנוף האורבני אליו מתייחס ניר אדוני בעבודה זו.
אין זו עיר מזמינה המשדרת ביתיות ושייכות, חמימות ותרבותיות. זוהי עיר מאיימת, לא מפוענחת, טעונה בסמלים פאליים ומשדרת אותות של לוחמה וקרב. עיר בה הכול ערוך, דרוך ומוכן לקראת משהו לא ידוע. השקט מאיים, העיר נטושה, ורק עקבות מעשי ידיהם של בני האדם מעידים על כך שהיו פה אנשים ואינם עוד. מה הקטסטרופה שגרמה להיעלמותם? נרטיבית, העבודה אינה נותנת תשובה. הפער העצום שבין גודש המבנים והסימונים בנוף לבין ריקנותו משרה אי-שקט מתוח.
משחק הצורות בין המסה לבין חלליה מרתק. הקצביות והריתמוס המרכיבים את הקומפוזיציה מעבירים תחושת דינמיות, ותורמים להגברת עוצמת ההמתנה למשהו העומד להתרחש. המבנים האורבניים נמצאים במקום לא ברו, ועם זאת מוכר במעורפל.
נוצר פער בין הארצי, המוצק, המושך כלפי בסיס העבודה, לבין הצורות האנכיות המזדקרות כלפי מעלה, הדוקרות את מרחבי החלל העוטף אותן ומתנגדות לתנועה האופקית.
זוהי עבודה מדיטטיבית של שקט וריכוז. המבט המיוחד על "קליפתם" החיצונית של המבנים – חומה, כיפה, צריח,מאזכר מקומות קדושים החוברים יחדיו לכלל איקונוגרפיה של עיר ארץ-ישראלית עתיקה בעלת עומק היסטורי.
אדוני יוצר מגזרות ממתכת אטומה ושחורה, שבה נפערים חללים בצורות, בגדלים ובמקצבים משתנים. האור הבוקע מאחורי השחור האטום משרה על הצופה קסם קולנועי בעל ממשות וירטואלית, המתקיימת אך ורק בזמן ההקרנה. ברגע שיכבה האור, ייעלמו הדימויים ויתפוגג הקסם.
